Underfloor heating offers comfort in your own home, where heat transfers through the floor directly onto bare feet or even when wearing socks, and distributes the heat evenly around the room. Heat rises, so when heat rises up out of the floor it makes perfect sense. It’s a great way to keep your home warm in these Winter months, and frees your walls from radiators which creates more space for us adults.

Benefits of Underfloor Heating (UFH)

Your feet will be lovely and warm all day long. It’s perfect when you step out of the bath or shower onto the heated floor.

The floors will stay warm even in the windows are open.

There are two main types of underfloor heating:

Electric (dry system)- The electric system contains a series of electric wires or heating mats that are installed beneath your flooring.
Water (wet system)- The water system contains a series of pipes connected to your boiler that circulates warm water throughout the floor to heat the space, it’s much like a large radiator.

Underfloor heating is normally seen as an expensive way to heat your home and generally seen as a luxury item, but here at DSB we install many solutions that can suit different budgets, and exactly what you are looking for.

The installation process will be determined on your exisiting flooring and sub-floor and the type of UFH system you choose. We will guide you through the options so you know exactly what to expect.

Electric (Dry) Underfloor Heating

Electric Underfloor Heating systems are easy to install and much easier that the Water Underfloor Heating Systems. They are a cheaper type of UFH to install and are more suitable for hard to get at spaces, but they are more expensive to run than the water-based systems.

This type of UFH can be installed anywhere you can get a power supply to. But because they are more costly to run, it’s best to install these in smaller rooms, such as bathrooms. The heating system is installed on top of a layer of floor insulation that ensures the heat travels upwards rather than down. The heating wires will be connected to your mains supply, and you can use a thermostat to control the temperature and pre-set the system to turn on or off.

Electric systems will run at approximately 25-31°C.

Water (Wet) Underfloor Heating

Water Underfloor Heating systems are expensive to install, but are a more efficient way of heating the room than radiators as the water doesn’t need to get as hot.

This type of UFH can be installed pretty much anywhere. Many home owners have their wet underfloor heating system installed in their kitchen, because they are more efficient to run and better suited for bigger rooms. The floor has to be properly prepared and insulated for the system to work correctly and efficiently.

Water systems will run usually between 27-31°C.
