Us Brits have had a boiling hot Summer which we really didn’t want to say goodbye to, but we are afraid to say Winter is now on it’s way with us being in Autumn already.
This time of year is seeing all the autumnal colours like the burnt oranges and ruby reds, kicking our way through the leaves on the ground in parks and forests, hearty warm casseroles slow cooking in the oven, pumpkins arriving in the shops, toes wiggling in front of cosy warm fires and waking up to cold frosty mornings.
Here are some tips below to get us prepared…
Servicing the boiler and heating system within your home
Hot baths and being cosy is what Autumn and Winter are all about. Servicing the boiler and heating system before the Winter months really sets in is a great idea, before being left without hot water or heating in the bleak mid Winter.
Over a third of homeowners do not check their boiler, which results in costly problems and a freezing cold home.
Keeping the central heating on throughout the cold months
Setting the central heating to a minimum of 14 degrees Celsius will avoid your pipes freezing over and preventing frost damage.
Pipes need to be warm
Do not be without a water supply in those Winter months, so keep them pipes warm by lagging (foam cardigan) them to prevent them from freezing over and bursting in the cold weather.
Bleed the radiators
If your radiators appear to be colder at the top than they are at the bottom, then this may mean there is trapped air within that is stopping the heat from circulating properly.
Stock up your cupboards
Stock the cupboards with tins and frozen foods for days like you don’t feel like venturing out, when the weather closes in.
Enjoy being indoors
There are so many dramas on the television these days, it looks as if they are made for the Winter months. Netflix has upped their game too with a whole new selection of films and TV shows to catch up on. So sit in your nice cosy living room for the evening and chill with a yummy hot chocolate, and wrap up in a fluffy blanket.
